THE HOUR FLOWER

Here is a simple project to keep a child busy for a bit. You only need a piece of paper and a pen, or pencil, or crayon.
START WITH a DOT

Start with a dot and add more dots around it. Then outline the dots.
OUTLINE THE OUTLINE

Outline the outline, shade the space between the outline and then draw raindrops at each dip in the outline.
AND SO ON AND SO ON

Continue adding dots and shapes and outlines and shading in some outlines and leaving some empty. I've done hundreds of these doodles to pass the time away and no two are ever the same. Here's where creativity takes over.
EXPAND THE FLOWER

Keep working toward the edge of the paper. Think light and dark and contrast with both shading and shapes and types of outlines.
FLOWER POWER

Once you've gotten to a point where you can make your doodle into a flower, simply draw a stem with some leaves and you have a finished drawing. It can now be colored if you want or left as is.
VARIATIONS ON THE THEME

Here are some other doodles I've done. Hopefully, it'll give you some ideas.
