Make a ransom note display that blends the spirit of Jackson Pollock with a hint of decoupage!

What You'll Need

To make this easy work of art with the WOW! factor, you will need...

  • two rectangular glass plates
  • old magazines
  • a wooden photo holder
  • glue gun
  • paint (assorted colors)
  • Mod Podge
  • sponge brush
  • scissors

Plan Your Ransom Note

First, cut out letters of many typefaces that you like from old magazines. After planning out your ransom note and, decoupage them on one of the glass plates. My best bet: add a layer of Mod Podge to the glass, stick the images face down on the glass, and add about 2 more layers on top to seal. My ransom note says "Give me glitter or your life!"

Paint Glass

Then, with the other glass plate, throw some paint on top! You can also throw on some glitter to give it some glitzy texture! Make sure, however, that you don't squeeze out too much paint, because you still want to be able to see your ransom note. My best suggestion: spread the paint around a little bit to look like it has been squishied together.

Assemble

Now, sandwich the two glass plates together. Again, you don't want to use a lot of paint, because it will seep out too much and cover most of the decoupage. You still want to be able to see the cut-outs after you put the glass plates together.

Finally, use a strip of hot glue to place inside of a wooden glass slider and let dry.

Now, you can add some artistic flair to your shelf! I really love this project, because this was inspired by Mark Montano's take on the project from "The Big Ass Book of Crafts", but this one adds some decoupage to give it some extra oomph!
