How to Change a Headlamp

Hello,
My name is Sheldon. I have been attending Lake Area Tech since the spring of 2019. I took an electrical class and have experience with electrical work. Instead of getting pulled over for a headlight being out, you can change it quickly before you get citied! I will show you how to easily change your headlamps/headlights, and save money by doing it yourself rather than paying someone to do it for you. It is very simple and will not take much of your time or money.
Pop the Hood

The first thing to do will be to unlatch the hood, typically the release will be underneath the steering wheel off to the left. It is easily identified by the picture of the car with the hood open, do not accidently open the trunk or gas tank.
Opening the Hood

Once this is done, go out and open the hood after releasing the other latch. It can easily be found by looking under the hood where the space opened up after releasing the hood release. The best way to find out the release beneath the hood is to look in-between the space of the hood and bumper. There will be a little lever there, usually it is in the middle but can be to the left or right depending on the vehicle. Push up on it to release the hood.
Propping the Hood

After opening the hood, prop it up. There is a bar used on the left to hold the hood up, it could be in the front of the vehicle or to the right. Put the bar in where there is the holes on the hood to hold up the hood.
Identifying the Bulb That Needs to Be Changed

Look right behind the headlight to find where the bulb goes into the headlamp assembly, there is a connector and that’s how it is easily identified to know it’s the bulb.
Removing the Bulb

To get the bulb out turn the connector counter clockwise. Once it is turned enough it will pull right out. Pull the connector to get the bulb out.
Disconnect the Connector
With the connector there is a grey clip connecting it to the connector. Push up on the clip and pull the connector and headlamp away from each other and they will separate. Connect the new headlamp and put the headlamp back into the assembly.
