Build a Bike Disk Brake Carving Knife Set

After I showed you guys the hatchet I made with the disc brake I pondered what else can be made with this great piece of steel? That's when i thought of making a few carving knives.thanks for looking and enjoy. Please Vote!

Parts:

Used disk brake
scrap wood (fallen branches)
epoxy
brass or steel pin material

Tools:

drill press
belt sander
bench grinder
die grinder
rough and fine files
vice grips

With the die grinder cut out the few pieces you need to construct the blades. Be sure you do not over heat the metal, as this will cause it to lose its tempered qualities. Grind off any sharp corners and give the designated cutting edge a light sharpening, dip it in water frequently to keep your work piece cool. Cut your wood to the desired length. You can also drill out the center or cut a channel where the blade will rest.

Take the blades to your belt sander and give them an edge at around 30 degrees. Remember to dip in water.

Epoxy and /or pin the blade with the wood handle. Allow enough time to properly dry, then sand to a comfortable grip. Be sure to wrap the sharp blade in tape during this step to avoid those pesky cuts!

Feel free to add your choice of wood finish now. I stained and put a clear coat on mine.

My carving skills are not the best but i did a quick carving to show what these awesome recycled knives can do. The knives stayed perfectly sharp though out. I call this a win! thank you and please vote.

I used a few magnets and glued the to some scrap wood to make a holder for the knives. It keeps them out of my way and protects the blades.
